Director of Security

The University of Valley Forge seeks a full-time Director of Security to insure the safety of its students, faculty and staff. This Is a full-time, benefited position reporting to the Director of Operations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee security professionals
  • Conduct investigations and complete incident reports
  • Communicate with the VP of Operations and the VP of Student Life and others who need to know if a serious incident occurs on campus
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, law enforcement and first responders
  • Act as a liaison between the University and law enforcement and first responders during critical incidents
  • Develop and train for emergency preparedness
  • Monitor the surveillance cameras
  • Patrol the campus conducting safety and security checks
  • Respond to student requests for assistance
  • Summon police or ambulance when appropriate for incidents that occur on campus
  • Prepare and maintain security officers work schedules
  • Develop and maintain safety and security manuals
  • Remain up to date on trends in law enforcement, safety and security methodology

Work Environment

  • The Director of Security works in a security office but also spends a large percentage of the time tending to students’ needs around campus. Candidates will be required to effectively and quickly commute from one location to another within the campus. Driving and patrolling are also routinely required. At least one security officer is present on campus at all times.

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Must submit all applicable background checks
  • Ability to work with and organize a team
  • Visualizes and implements security protocols and procedures that enhance the safety and security of students, faculty, and staff

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized
  • Understanding of security protocol
  • Adept decision making skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to investigate potential problems
  • Works proactively rather than reactively

Education and/or Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Security, or a related field is preferred
  • Five years of experience working as a security officer or law enforcement
  • Security training will be required
