Head Athletic Trainer

HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER

The University of Valley Forge seeks a Head Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Athletics. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible to provide first aid and preventative measures for all student-athletes at the University of Valley Forge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Duties:

  • Work under the supervision of the Director of Athletics and in direct contact with the Team Physician with the aim of fielding a healthy team.
  • Attend all home sporting events to prepare athletes for competition and provide assistance during events.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact well with all parties involved in the care of student-athletes
  • Use good judgment in responding to emergency (injury) situations.
  • Communicate directly with head coach(es) on a daily basis or as required.
  • Work within the budget designated when ordering sports medicine supplies.
  • Organize and implement off-season training programs for athletes with the Head Coach of a sport, as time permits and interest warrants.
  • Self-starter and able to handle confidential matters.
  • Prepare annual budget for administrative approval.

Specific Duties:

  • Oversee operation of training room including modalities, equipment and supplies used. Maintains general cleanliness of these areas.
  • Secure bid proposals, place orders, and maintain inventory of sport medicine supplies and modalities.
  • Prepare the athletes for each practice and game by exercising, preventative taping and bandaging, and providing guidance relative to the team warm-up.
  • Work with Team Physician in conducting physical examinations for athletes.
  • Work with Team Physician and Head Coach (es) to determine when it is medically safe for an injured athlete to return to competition.
  • Actively participate in the rehabilitation of athletes following an athletic injury or surgery. Insure, to the degree possible, that the rehabilitation occurs on-site.
  • Provide accurate and thorough injury records on student-athletes.
  • Compile and organize physicals, emergency cards, and other pertinent information for each individual athlete.
  • Communicate with other team’s trainer for all away games.
  • Stock and prepare med bags for away contests.
  • Remain active in professional organizations to remain current on new standards and techniques.
  • Demonstrate ability to form healthy relationships with higher education students.
  • Assist in other duties whenever called upon as needed for the good and welfare of the total College ministry.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Services related field and a master’s degree preferred
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer and/or Certified Athletic Trainer – NATA

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or related job experience of 1-2 years preferred.
