Financial Services
What do I need to do for my financial aid if I am transferring to a different school?

• Update your FAFSA. Sign in at StudentAid.gov, open your processed FAFSA, choose “Make a Correction,” and add the new school’s federal code. Make sure the new school is listed first on your FAFSA. It will take three to five days for the new school to see your information.

• Contact the new school. Ask its financial aid office what forms, verification items, deadlines, and enrollment steps are required.

• Report aid already received. Tell the new school about grants and loans awarded for this 26-27 award year. Your eligibility and award amounts may change; UVF institutional aid will not transfer.

• If you are a Pennsylvania resident, sign in to GrantUs, update your school choices, and place your new school in the #1 position. GrantUs: grantus.pheaa.org/s_Login.jsp | PHEAA: 1-800-692- 7392 • granthelp@pheaa.org

• If you are a resident of another state whose grant was able to be used at UVF, check with your state to see what, if any, steps are required.

Is there anything else that I should consider regarding financial aid?

Keep copies: Save your transcript, account statement, aid offers, loan records, enrollment dates, and all school/servicer communications.

I took out federal loans. Is there anything I need to do?

• Students who accepted federal loans at UVF and did not enroll at another institution should complete Exit Counseling immediately at https://studentaid.gov/exit-counseling/. The purpose of Exit Loan Counseling is to educate you about your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower.

• Your last date of attendance is the beginning of your six-month grace period. This grace period is available only if you have not used a grace period in the past or you have not waived it through a consolidation loan.

• Additional information regarding your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower is included in the Exit Counseling Guide at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/sites/default/files/loan-exit-counseling.pdf.

• If there is any reason why you are unable to make payments on your student loans, you should contact your Direct Loan Servicer and advise them of the situation, as you could be eligible for a forbearance or deferment. Further information about your Title IV funding, including the contact information for your Direct Loan Servicer(s), is available on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website at www.nslds.ed.gov which you are able to access with your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID), or you may call them at 1.800.4.FED.AID. For questions about Direct Loan consolidation, call the Loan Consolidation Center at 1.800.557.7392.

• As a UVF student, you also have access to free, online Financial Avenue courses to help you understand student loans repayment and other personal finance matters. Using the Access Code “patriots”, you can go to https://fa.financialavenue.org/, sign up for an account, and begin utilizing this amazing resource!

• Remember, repaying a student loan is a serious obligation. Failing to repay a student loan can affect your credit, your ability to receive federal aid in the future, or your ability to purchase a house, a car, etc. If there is anything that you don’t understand about your loans, please contact your direct loan servicer.

I took out private loans. Is there anything I should know?

Private loans, similar to federal loans, may also have a grace period. This is dependent on your lender. If you used private loans and are not enrolled in another institution, you will want to contact your private loan lender to discuss repayment.

Am I eligible to have my federal student loans discharged?

• You may be eligible if:
• You were enrolled when the University closed and could not complete your program because of the closure; or
• You withdrew within 180 days before the University closed.

• You generally do not qualify if: you completed all program coursework; withdrew too early; or are completing a comparable program through a teach-out, transferred credits, or another comparable means, including attending at another school approved by the MSCHE accrediting agency and, if applicable, the state of PA authorizing agency.

• To learn more or apply:
1. Review the Federal Student Aid closed school discharge information.
2. This link takes you to a PDF of the loan discharge application
3. Log in to your StudentAid.gov account to identify your federal loan servicer.
