Financial Services Counselor

The counselor is responsible for assisting and ensuring the student completes all parts of the Financial Aid process. The counselor is responsible for collection of student accounts receivable. This includes communication with and education for students.

Essential Responsibilities

    • Counsel students and parents regarding charges and fees, institutional and government aid, loan options, and payment options and other student account related questions by phone, email, and in person.

    • Work with FA Solutions, including coordinating communication with the Student Experience Center and the processing functions conducted by the Director.

    • Processing scholarship applications in conjunction with the Director.

    • Work closely with students to help assist with completing Financial Aid requirements, including:
      • FAFSA
      • Loan Requirements
      • Incomplete documents
    • Follow up and collect outstanding balances from students with weekly reporting of progress on current accounts receivables.

    • Ensure all current students’ receivables have been collected as per assigned student groupings.

      • Main Campus students – track with access reports and actual billing statement balances owed. Work with Student Success.

      • Virtual Campus – Work with Online Operations Advisors

      • Advance – work with Advance Internship Site Coordinator

      • Dual Enrollment – work with Admissions Counselor to communicate clearly about payment expectations

    • Coordinate with other departments (Student Success, IT, Student Life, Athletics, Advance, etc.) concerning responses for delinquent accounts.
    • Educate students and parents on the Financial Services process through Open House, Admitted Student Day, First Year Experience Class, and Inceptia courses, among others.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

    • Attending department meetings

    • Managing holds

    • Updating the website

    • Participating in program review

    • Book vouchers

    • Mass communications

    • Cashiering, filing, and other projects as necessary.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of exposure to physical conditions typical of a normal office environment. Occasional weekend hours may be expected.

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
