Director of Facilities

The University of Valley Forge invites applicants for the position of Director of Facilities. The Director of Facilities manages the overall day-to-day maintenance, grounds, and housekeeping operations of the University with a staff of about 15. The Director is responsible for coordinating communication and processes with different departments on campus. They must be a creative problem solver and work well with the Facilities team and the leadership on campus. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

General Duties and Responsibilities

    • Plan, coordinate, and implement projects, programs, and initiatives as directed.

    •  Supervise, advise and evaluate department staff. Manage human resources via yearly staff evaluations, policy compliance. Interview, hire, train and recruit new department staff.

    • Prepare, analyze, and provide reports on facilities projects.

    • Serve as liaison between University departments, vendors, government agencies, and external organizations.

    • Is the single point of contact for the department with respect to facilities management issues campus-wide.

    • Oversee the implementation of all in-house and contracted landscape projects, providing coordination, supervision, and planning as requested.

    • Responsible for directing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance programs.

    • Ensure that staff is student focused and well versed in the core values of the University and execution thereof.

    • Coordinate with campus service providers for necessary support including, but not limited to facilities set-up, maintenance, and custodial needs.

    • Manage financially sound performance and monitor budget versus expenditures of department accounts. Implement cost control mechanisms for labor and inventory.

    • Is the essential employee for the department for severe weather or significant campus events.

    • Attend Director meetings and other meetings as assigned.

Work Environment

The Director of Facilities works in an office but also spends a large percentage of the time tending to needs around campus. The Director will be required to effectively and quickly commute from one location to another within the campus.

Qualifications and Abilities

    • Ability to work with and organize a team.

    • Visualize and implement Facilities protocols and procedures that enhance the physical campus.

    • Visualize and implement training, protocols, and procedures that enhance the operation of the Facilities department.

Skills and Knowledge

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Highly organized.

    • Adept problem solving.

    • Detail oriented.

    • Able to investigate potential problems.

    • Work proactively rather than reactively.

Education and/or Experience

    • Five years of experience in leadership preferred.

    • Professional memberships/credentials preferred.

    • Maintenance: 3 years (Required)

    • Supervising experience: 3 years (Required)

    • Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Required)
