Job Title: Security Guard

Reports to: Director of Security
Position Overview:
The goal of this position is to safeguard the students, faculty, and staff of the University. A Security Guard will report violations of the Pennsylvania criminal code as well as violations of the University’s policies to the appropriate entities. Guards will frequently patrol campus, checking dorms, common buildings, and public areas for safety and security violations. All violations found will be reported to the Director of Security and those who the University deems suspicious will be monitored, by both patrols and surveillance. Student, staff, and faculty safety is the highest priority of the Security Team and therefore matters of safety are to be taken seriously by all guards on the Security Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the campus and its safety
- Conduct investigations and complete incident reports and communicate these incidents to the Director of Security
- Act as a liaison between the University and law enforcement and first responders during critical incidents
- Prepare for emergencies
- Monitor the surveillance cameras
- Patrol the campus, conducting safety and security checks
- Respond to student requests for assistance
- Summon police or ambulance when appropriate for incidents that require it
- Unlock and lock doors on a predetermined schedule
- Be available and ready to receive calls at any time while on shift
Work Environment
The Security Guard works in the security office but also spends a large amount of time outside, tending to the needs of students and responding to various calls around campus. In addition, they will patrol frequently, either on foot or by vehicle, looking for anything suspicious that needs to be reported. Guards are required to respond to issues quickly and efficiently and may be out of the office for most of their shift depending on how the day unfolds. There is always one security guard on shift at all times, providing the campus with 24/7 coverage, every day of the year, even during holidays.

Qualifications and Abilities
- Candidates will be required to submit all applicable background checks
- Ability to work with a team
- Implement safety and security protocols given to them by the Director of Security
- Anticipate safety issues on campus and work to mitigate them
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly Organized
- Understanding of Security Protocol
- Adept decision making
- Detail Oriented
- Able to investigate potential problems
- Work Proactively rather than reactively
Education and/or Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree of any kind is preferred
- Security training will be required
