Second Annual “Mile for Many”

The University of Valley Forge (UVF) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its second annual “Mile for Many” on November 21, 2024. The event was a food drive for a local food shelf in Phoenixville, PA. To attend the event, participants brought a non-perishable food item. Those who participated ran or walked a full mile lap around campus to show their support. SAAC invited students to dress up in different Thanksgiving and Christmas-themed outfits to spread holiday cheer.

Mile for Many was able to bring in a lot of goods for the food shelf. Hear from Sofia Troland, a member of the Cross-Country team and one of UVF’s SAAC representatives, about the event.

Sofia shared, “At this event, we don’t just run to run, but we run to draw awareness to our surrounding community.  As entry into the Mile for Many, we encourage attendees to bring some non-perishable food items which we collect and donate to our Phoenixville food pantry. As Acts 1:8 reminds us, these practices should not be saved just for trips that take place in other states or countries but should be something that we practice with our friends and neighbors who may just live a mile away.”

Mile for Many is just one of multiple events run by the UVF Athletics Department. The Valley Forge Patriots strive to follow their core values of Discipline, Hard Work, Humility, and Perseverance. The department emphasizes these principles to their athletes so that they may grow spiritually as well as in their academic and athletic goals. Through events such as Mile for Many, students can display these values to the community outside of UVF.
