Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Education & Music Theory

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION & MUSIC THEORY

The University of Valley Forge seeks a full-time professor in the area of music education to commence in August 2024.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate teaching competence in music education methods classes, music theory, aural skills, and music technology.
  • Teach approximately 14 -17 credit hours per semester.
  • Assist Department Chair with selected administrative duties related to the graduate music technology program.
  • Advise students in academic program and career objectives.
  • Coordinate field experiences and student teaching placements in local public schools, including oversight of student teachers.
  • Maintain connections with the music education community in the Philadelphia area.
  • Promote and recruit students.
  • Actively support and participate in department events and initiatives.
  • Serve on departmental and institutional committees.
  • Be a collegial member of a dynamic, interactive faculty.

  • Possible courses to be taught:
    • Music Theory (4 levels)
    • Aural Skills (4 levels)
    • Fundamentals of Music
    • Elementary Music Methods and Materials
    • Secondary Music Methods and Materials
    • Choral and/or Instrumental Methods & Materials
    • Technology in Music Education
    • Some applied teaching in area of expertise
    • Other courses as needed based on qualifications
  • Demonstrate commitment to the university mission of preparing individuals for a life of service and leadership in the church and in the world.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, Ph. D. preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of public school teaching experience (choral or instrumental)
  • Preference given to candidates with teaching experience on the university level
  • Preference given to candidates with strong piano skills
  • Knowledge in music technology desired
  • Must be supportive of the ethos and doctrine of the Assemblies of God.
