Assistant/Associate Professor of Piano & Music History
The University of Valley Forge seeks a full-time professor in the area of applied piano and music history to commence in August 2025.
Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrate teaching competence in applied piano, class piano, music history, piano pedagogy, piano literature, and Fine Arts Appreciation.
- Demonstrate teaching competence in contemporary worship styles, including playing by ear and improvisation using chord charts.
- Serve as accompanist for students in general department recitals, junior recitals, and senior recitals.
- Teach approximately 12-17 credit hours per semester.
- Advise students in academic program and career objectives.
- Engage in student recruitment, retention, and program development.
- Perform tasks related to assessment of student learning.
- Actively support and participate in department events and initiatives.
- Serve on departmental and institutional committees.
- Assist the Department Chair with selected administrative duties.
- Be a collegial member of a dynamic, interactive faculty.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and actively participate in a local church. Faculty are expected to uphold the UVF lifestyle standards and serve as spiritual role models by living in accordance with Christian values.

- Music History I (Antiquity through Baroque)
- Music History II (Classical through Modern)
- Music History III (World music, Folk Music, and Jazz)
- Applied Piano (Including improvisation & chord charts in contemporary worship)
- Class Piano I & II
- Piano Pedagogy
- Piano Literature
- Fine Arts Appreciation
- Other courses as needed based on qualifications
- Demonstrate commitment to the university mission of preparing individuals for a life of service and leadership in the church and in the world.
Spiritual Requirements

A pattern of spiritual development characterized by prayer, Bible study, and regular attendance at a local church or involvement in church ministry.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree required, Ph. D. preferred.
- Preference given to candidates with teaching experience on the university level.
- Preference given to candidates who can teach piano improvisation and playing by ear in the context of contemporary worship styles (chord charts).
- Experience in church music & worship desired.
- Skills in music technology desired.
